Twenty Five

January 23, 2018

Twenty Five - a quarter of a century, two and a half decades, a milestone. However you want to phrase it, it all means one thing: Another year older.

Arriving at the marker of another year, especially one that is so highly celebrated, makes me think about the things that I have managed to achieve in the last 25 years, and to look forward to what is to come. To feel a sense of accomplishment, I began to count how many exciting things I have been a part of since I was born. I could tally the number of places I've visited, the variety jobs I have worked or the credentials that I have to my name, but at the end of the day, that's not what living is really about.

It's not a comparison of who has done the best, earned the most or even who has the greatest number followers on social media. I truly believe that at the end of the day, it all comes down to relationships. I feel that God has put us here on Earth to have a relationship with him and relationships with those around us. If we can't get that straight, we are missing out on a lot.

You can travel the world, have expensive things or be very successful, but when all is said and done, if there is no one that you love, none of it will matter. Invest in your friends, your family and those who are dear to you, because it is they who make those good things even greater.

This upcoming year will be an exciting one for me, most definitely. It has already begun with my living abroad, will shortly transition into moving to a city that doesn't speak my native tongue, and will continue to provide opportunities to see beautiful things beyond my imagination. Among all of these things, the greatest will certainly be the people who will make these places what they are, and the continued influence of the loved ones in my life.

Whether you spend your days in school, working 9-5, travelling the world or staying at home, I encourage you to do the things that you love. Even more importantly, remember to appreciate those you love because it's the people around you that make life that much sweeter and your influence in their lives that will leave a legacy for the world to come.
