Chose Truth

Life can be hard sometimes. Whether it's reliable routine shifting to something new, conflict with others or moments in life turning out to be less than ideal, we all confront seasons in life which cause us to come face to face with discouragement. It's in these moments, when our heads are hung low and it takes all of the energy within, to pull your gaze from off the ground, despair likes to sing its song. "You'll never be good enough...You really messed it up this time...There's no going back now...You're a disaster...It's time to give up." Do any of these sound familiar? The bad news is that the battle has begun. There is an enemy who is out there to feed us lies, in hopes of making us feel worthless and incapable. He knows that when those lies are believed, there will be no forward progression onto hope. "Is there any good news?" you may ask The answer is a strong, resounding YES! In what way can we combat lies? By searching out and holding tightly to the truth. Because God claims His word to be true (John 17:17) and Jesus claims to be The Truth (John 14:6), what better place to look for words of truth, to combat these lies in times of despair, than in the Bible? Here are some solid words of truth that you may need to hear today. They are in first person to make them a true statement about yourself, from your perspective of reading them. I am complete - Col 2:10 "...and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." I am God's workmanship - Eph 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." I am a new creation - 2 Cor 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" I am a conqueror - Rom 8:37 "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." I am forgiven - Eph 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." I am greatly loved - John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." I am valuable - 1 Peter 1:18-19 "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect." I am wonderfully made - Psalm 139:14 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." I want to give credit here for some of this list, which I found on a resource put out by Crash the Chatterbox, a Bible study and book by Steven Furtick. I just recently rediscovered this resource, but I participated in this particular study a few years ago. I quite enjoyed it, and do recommend it if you are struggling with those negative voices and how to overcome them through God's truth.

With all of this in mind, at the end of the day, we can only listen to one set of voices, the truth or the lies. Listening to the lies of the enemy will leave us discouraged and defeated, while hearing and embracing God's truths brings us hope and peace, even through life's greatest challenges and lowest points. Knowing what to do is only half the battle. The other half is the motivation to fight. The good thing is that we don't need to do it on our own. God helps us to do this when we lean into Him. Choose truth. There may not be a quick fix to some of the chaos, but at least we have a Hope and Truth to hold onto. For anyone who might be struggling in this present moment, I want to leave you with some lyrics to a song. "Where are You now when darkness seems to win? Where are You now when the world is crumbling? Oh, I hear You say Look up child." To listen to the full version of this encouraging song, Look Up Child by Lauren Diagle click here . And remember "Choose Truth."
